Guard Yourself Against Verbal Violence in Nursing

verbal violence in nursing, verbal abuseVerbal violence in nursing always happens. However, if you are armed with conflict-management techniques, you control it in your workplace. At first glance the headlines created a wave of finger pointing shame: “49% of 1,407 Nurses Report Verbal Abuse”. But let me replace sensationalism with reality; and blog-itis with academic rigor.

First of all, these nurses experienced verbal abuse from a nurse colleague ‘at least once in the past 3 months.’ Who doesn’t? Everyone I polled has experienced at least 4 occurrences of verbal abuse in the last year. There is a very high probability that many professions would have the same response rate.
